These terms govern your use of Board Advocate (BoardAdvocate.org). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
The service
Board Advocate is a non-partisan tool for tracking state legislation relevant to school boards and managing your own board's goals. We take no position on the legislation the service tracks.
Accuracy of legislative and AI-generated content
Legislative data is sourced from public providers, including LegiScan, and may be incomplete, delayed, or contain errors. Some insights are generated by an AI model and may be inaccurate or incomplete. Nothing in the service is legal advice, and you should always confirm anything you rely on against the official legislative record before acting on it.
Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access.
Boards and teams
You may create or join a board (team) within the service. The person who creates a board is responsible for managing its membership and subscription. Content one member of a board follows or configures may be visible to other members of that board.
Subscriptions and payment
The service is currently free while in prerelease; some plans may require payment once introduced. Where a paid plan exists, subscriptions are billed through Paddle.com Market Ltd, our payment processor and merchant of record for all purchases. Your purchase is subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms of Use, and refunds are handled under Paddle's policies rather than a separate policy of ours.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or to violate any third party's rights.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service, other accounts, or our systems.
- Scrape, resell, or redistribute the service's data in bulk outside the terms of the underlying data providers' licenses.
- Interfere with or disrupt the service's operation.
Third-party data licenses
Legislative data is provided in part by LegiScan, used under a CC BY 4.0 license. Your use of that data through the service must remain consistent with that license.
Intellectual property
We retain all rights to the service itself. You retain ownership of the content you create in the service (such as goals and notes); you grant us a license to store and process it solely to provide the service to you.
Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including decisions made in reliance on legislative or AI-generated content.
Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll post the update here and adjust the date above. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
